Research and development against dry mouth

Lozenges Mouthwash
Médicament Bain de bouche

Lozenges stimulates saliva secretion by minor salivary glands

The mouthwash fights the colonization of the healthy biofilm coating the oral mucosa by a pathogenic fungus, Candida alibcans

Solidages develops innovative drugs against dry mouth

There are several risk factors for dry mouth (or xerostomia): dehydration, auto-immune deseases and sicca syndromes, viral hepatitis C, head and neck cancers with radiotherapy... The most common cause for dry mouth is drug intake, mostly psychotropic drugs. There is also an increased risk of dry mouth for people takinf 4 or more active principles per day.

Dry mouth induces dyscomfort, pain and oral infections: dental caries, bad breath, oral candidiasis. There is a risk of inhalation pneumonia. Dry mouth frequetly induces an intolerance to dentures and chewing and swallowing difficulties. A common complication is malnutrition.

We have showed that in hospital, dry mouth symptoms reached:

  • 56% in a group of 90 chronically-ill patients (viral hepatitis C, aids, psychiatric disordres, mean age 44), and
  • 70% in a group of 60 elderly patients (mean age 85).

The new treatment developped by Solidages is conceived for elderly people and persons suffering from chronic diseases (depression, diabetes, hepatits, aids, addictions...), who are poly-medicated.

Candida

This new treatment is derived from microbial analysis of the biofilm coating the oral mucosa of people suffering from dry mouth symptoms. The range of treatmet includs two medicines, lozenges and a dry mouth-specific mouthwash. The concept is to retain water in the oral biofilm and to fight Candida growing in the altered biofilm, while preserving salivary the biofilm visco-elasticity.
